Huh! Good clue i got here! If you notice Astro First FAQ, you will see lots of Question and Answer about Astro First...and guess what, i found something! At the bottom of the FAQ, there are some interested news about IPTV that will hit our home very soon! Guest what, it will be b4 April! So happy to hear this! ASTRO FIRST FAQ


1. What is Astro First?

Astro First is the first ever service in Malaysia that brings the cinema experience right into your home. With Astro First Movie Portal on Astro Channel 480, the window between the cinema and Pay TV will be shortened and Astro customers will have access to the latest local cinema titles (as early as 2 weeks after the cinema debut) in Malaysia, available for viewing via SMS. 

2. What are the benefits of Astro First? 

There are 3 key consumer benefits of Astro First are:- 

a) Freshest movie titles as early as two weeks after their big screen debut on Astro First 

b) Convenience - watch the Astro First movies in the comfort of your home when and how often you want to with your family and friends. 

c) Value for money. At RM15 per movie, instead of paying RM40 to RM60 for a family of 4 at the cinemas, Astro First is truly value for money. In addition, the 12 different viewing times for each movie, gives you the convenience of watching it at your leisure, for as many times possible within 48 hours upon purchase. 

3. What equipment do I need to enjoy Astro First? Do I need Astro B.yond? 

Astro First is available to all Astro customers who have an Astro decoder both the normal decoder and Astro B.yond decoder. However, Astro First is not available on the Astro Max decoder. Astro Max customers who wish make purchases on the Astro First Movie Portal, are encouraged to upgrade to the Astro B.yond PVR decoder. 

4. How can I access the Astro First portal/services? 

The Astro First movie portal is available on Astro Channel 480. 

5. Can I set my box to remind me when the movie is about to start? 

Yes, press the guide button on the remote control to select the content of your choice. 

6. Do I have a limited timeframe to watch the movie I purchased? 


Yes, each movie is valid for 48-hours from the time of purchase. There will be no refund if you do not watch the movie within the 48-hour timeframe. 

CONTENT 

7. What cinema releases will be available on Astro First?

Currently, we are offering local cinema premieres such as Ngangkung in Standard Definition on Channel 482 and Ngangkung in High Definition on Channel 483, Aku Masih Dara on Channel 484 and Damping Malam on Channel 485 from 13 January onwards. 

8. How many titles will be available for selection on Astro First?

The number of movies will depend on the number of local cinema premieres in Malaysia. 

9. Will the content in Astro First be the same every month?

New content will be added to the Astro First Movie Portal as and when movies are available from cinema. 

10. How long are the titles available for purchase?

Each movie is available to customers to order (or buy) for at least 4 weeks on Astro First. 
New movies will be released on Astro First from time to time (usually Thursday). 

11. How often are the titles refreshed?

The titles are refreshed on a monthly basis. 

12. Does Astro First offer Hollywood titles as well? Why not?

Currently Astro First gives the platform to promote local creative content among a wider Malaysian audience, which will in turn spur the growth of the local film industry. We expect to bring regional movie titles in the coming months. 

13. How different are the movies on Astro First and on the other movie channels like HBO, Cinemax, Star Movies?

Astro First offers the latest of local cinema premieres that are not available on channels like HBO, Cinemax and Star Movies. 

14. How is Astro First different from ABOM/Tayangan Hebat?

a) Astro First is the first ever service which offers the latest of local cinema premieres as early as 2 weeks from its cinema debut in Malaysia. 

b) Astro First offers customers the choice to purchase their preferred movie titles individually while ABOM is a monthly subscription service entitling customers to watch all the movies offered in a given month. 

c) Astro First offers customers a near video-on-demand service with the availability of content within 5 minutes of its purchase and the convenience of choosing their preferred show timing (with multiple scheduled show timings available). 

15. Where can I find detailed information/synopsis on the titles?

Each title will have detailed information and synopsis available on the Astro First Movie Portal. 

16. Where can I view all the titles I have purchased?

The titles you have purchased can be found on the 'My Movies" section in your Astro First Portal. You can access the 'My Movies' section by pressing the Yellow button. 

17. Can I search for titles on Astro First on the Movie Portal?

You can scroll through the Movie Portal by pressing left & right button on the remote control. 

18. Can I see the upcoming titles on the Astro First Movie Portal?

Yes, there will be movie posters of upcoming titles on the Movie Portal on Channel 480. You may also watch the Preview of Movie trailers by pressing the Green button.  

PURCHASING

19. How do I subscribe to Astro First?

Astro First is available to all customers via Astro Channel 480. Each movie is available for purchase at RM15 each. No monthly subscription fee is necessary. 

20. How much do I need to pay for each movie?

Each movie has a price tag and can be differentiated on the basis of theatrical box office, origin, cast etc. Current pricing is RM15 per movie. 

21. How do I purchase a movie on Astro First?

You can order a movie on the Astro First Movie Portal by going through these steps:
Step 1: Tune in to Astro First at Channel 480 – browse the movie listing and press the Blue button on the Astro remote to order the movie.

Step 2: Press the Blue button again to confirm your order.

Step 3: You'll see a 16 digit Alpha numeric code generated on the TV. SMS this code to 32999 and within 5 minutes, you'll receive an SMS confirmation and your movie will be available for viewing. It's that simple. 

22. How much does it cost to SMS my purchase? 

Your standard telco rates per SMS apply. It's usually RM0.15. 

23. A 16-alpha-numeric digit code is very long. What happens if I key in the wrong code? 

You will receive an invalid or error messages and you will need to resend. 

24. How long after I SMS my code can I begin watching the movie?

You can begin watching the movie within 5 minutes of receiving your SMS confirmation. 

25. Is there a way for me to prevent my children from purchasing the movies?

Yes, parental lock is available for Astro First. 

26. Can I purchase my movie by calling the Customer Careline?

Each movie can be purchased via SMS only. Once you have confirmed your order, a code will be generated and will appear on your TV screen. SMS this code to 32999 and wait for your SMS reply on your mobile phone. 

27. How soon after the movie is released in cinemas will it be available on Astro First? 

The movie will be available on Astro First as early as two weeks after its cinema debut in Malaysia. 

28. Is there a limit to the number of movies I can purchase? 

No, you have the option of purchasing as many movies as you wish. Each movie is valid for 48 hours from the time of purchase. 

29. If I have more than one set-top box in my house, can I purchase movies from Astro First with each box? 

Yes, you can purchase as many movies as you like. There is no restriction to the number of movies you can purchase. 

BILLING

30. How am I billed for my purchases? Will it be itemized?

a) The cost of the movie(s) which you purchase shall be billed to you and stated in your Astro Bill and payable on the due date stated on your Astro Bill. Payment shall be via your preferred payment method. 

b) Please note that you have to pay all charges even if the charges have been incurred by someone else at your home/premise. This is open to residential customer account holders. 

c) Price is subject to 6% govt tax. 

31. How will I be billed if I am on Auto-Debit payment?


For Auto-debit customers, you will be charge according to the statement. For direct - debit customers, you should advise your respective bank of your additional payment. 

VOD/NVOD 

32. Is Astro First Video On Demand (VOD)?


Astro First is a Near Video On Demand service available to all Astro customers who subscribe to this service. 

HD/PVR/MAX 

33. Can I record the movie I have purchased on my PVR and watch it multiple times? 

Yes, you can record the movie but it will only be valid for viewing within 48 hours of purchase. The recording will be automatically deleted from your hard disk after 48 hours. 

34. Are the movies shown in high definition? What channel are the HD movies available on? 

Only selected movies will be available on HD and there is no dedicated channel for HD. 

35. I have Astro B.yond but I don't subscribe to the HD package. Can I still watch the movies in HD? 

Only those who subscribe to the HD service will be able to enjoy the movie in HD. 

36. I have an Astro Max decoder. Can I purchase movies from Astro First? 

a) Astro Max operates on software that is incompatible with the Astro First Movie Portal. As such, Astro Max customers will not be able to purchase movies or access the Astro First Movie Portal. 

b) For Astro Max customers who wish to purchase movies via the Astro First Movie Portal, you are encouraged to upgrade to the Astro B.yond PVR decoder.

RAINFADE/TECHNICAL 


37. What if it rains? Will it disrupt my viewing? 

Heavy rain may disrupt the transmission of the purchased movie, which in turn cause disruption to your viewing. Each movie is valid for 48-hours from the time of purchase.  

38. If I switch my smartcard with another box, will I still be able to view my purchases? 

No, you will not be able to do so. The smartcard is paired to your box. 

39. Is Astro First available for Multiple Dwelling Units (MDU)?

a) Yes. Astro First is available to all Astro customers who have an Astro decoder whether it is a first-generation decoder or Astro B.yond decoder. However, Astro First is not available on the Astro Max decoder. 

b) For Astro Max customers who wish to purchase movies via the Astro First Movie Portal, you are encouraged to upgrade to the Astro B.yond PVR decoder.

BUSINESS

40. Will Astro be introducing Video on Demand services? 


Our VOD services will be available by end of Q1 2011 together with our IPTV service offering. 


41. How do you get the movie releases? Is Astro in partnership with local production houses?

Astro will continue to work with local studios and production houses to bring the cinema experience into your home. 

42. Besides movies genre on Astro FIRST, would Astro First be airing other LIVE, musicals, theatre, etc?

No. These will be featured on a special event channels or PPV.
